Spanish Firm Claims it Can Make Oil from Plankton

Britain's Solar Boat a Scientific Advance

London -- The Serpentine Solar Shuttle, which is powered entirely by solar panels, made its debut on a lake in London's Hyde Park. Even on cloudy and rainy days, it can still gather enough sunlight to keep running and when the ferry is not in use, it feeds surplus electricity into the national transmission network.

Vt. Dairy Farm Harnesses Power of Cow Pies

Bridport, Vt. -- The Blue Spruce Farm is making use of the 35,000 gallons of manure it generates everyday. By collecting methane gas from the animal waste, the farm can now generate enough electricity to power 300 to 400 Vermont homes. For an extra charge, customers of the Central Vermont Public Service Corp. can sign up to purchase their electricity from renewable sources such as the Blue Spruce Farm.

Bush Admin to Offer $170 Million for Solar Energy

Researchers Work to Make Alternative Jet Fuel Affordable

Seattle -- Several obstacles need to be overcome before alternative fuels can be used as jet fuel. Biodiesel has a much higher freezing point than the kerosene-like fuel used in most commercial airplanes today, so it would not perform as well in the cold conditions experienced at high altitudes. Liquid hydrogen requires more storage space and the processes used to make synthetic fuels are not yet efficient enough to make it worthwhile. Full Article

LED Lights Will Save City Money

Three Gorges Dam Wall Completed

Petrobras Pioneers Vegoil Diesel Mix Technology

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil --- Petrobas, a Brazilian company, announced the development of "H-Bio technology" - a process that creates a low-sulphur biodiesel with mineral fuel qualities. To help reduce the country's dependence on foreign oil, Brazil plans to blend biodiesel with all normal diesel beginning in 2008.
