More Than $1 Million in Grants Awarded to Strengthen Ohio's Scrap Tire Recycling Efforts

Columbus, OH --- Almost $1.5 million in grants were awarded to businesses, schools and communities across the state. The organizations receiving grants have proposed converting manufacturing operations to accept scrap tire material, expand tire processing, use scrap tire material in civil engineering projects or develop recycling related technology for scrap tire material.

Sprint Nextel Supports Earth Day with Reminder to Recycle Wireless Phones

Buyers Consultation Service (BCS) now offers a program in which offices, retail stores, and other groups can be given collection boxes for cell phones, PDAs, and used inkjet cartridges. Once the box is full, BCS pays for it to be mailed back to their facility so the items can be recycled. The proceeds then go to Recycle for Breast Cancer, United Cerebral Palsy, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. In the month of April, computer monitors and CPUs can also be recycled for free. Immortal Styrofoam Meets Its Enemy

Researchers at the University College Dublin found that by melting Styrofoam and converting it into styrene oil, soil bacteria called Pseudomonas putida could convert it into a biodegradable plastic called PHA(polyhydroxyalkanoates). San Francisco To Test Turning Dog Waste Into Power

Best Buy Debuts Mail-In Cell Phone Recycling Program

Best Buy Co., Inc. -- A new program enables customers to recycle their old cell phones. After purchasing phones or related items in Best Buy stores, customers will be given pre-paid postage envelopes to mail their old phones to be recycled. Then for each phone returned, $1 will be donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Best Buy stores already collect and recycle ink jet cartridges and rechargeable batteries.
