Water bottle waste
About six months ago my husband and I were appalled at the amount of water bottles we were throwing away. We live in Phoenix AZ (115-degrees) and while we recycle, but I began to wonder "Why not reduce even our recycle waste?". With all the plastics scare, we went down to our local Costco and purchased a 12-pack of 20-ounce Fuze drinks in glass bottles with resealable metal lids for $11.50. We drank the product, and now refill these dozen bottles with our PUR-pitcher filtered water. At a previous cost of about $8 a week in plastic water bottle cases, we now spend nothing to refill the glass. They are safe, green, and cold water just tastes better out of them. They are easily sanitized in the dish washer. Less recycle, money savings, no trash...we are pleased. As for breakable, we also have 4 aluminim refillable, non breakable water bottles that we take to the gym or tennis class. Last week we found even cheaper glass bottles by the dozen pack at Sams Club. about $5.50 for a dozen iced tea in glass bottles will resealable lids. That will be our next purchase when we need more bottles.

How do I go "green" in a stagnent lazy environment
I want to become more environmentally friendly. Here is the crappy part, I live in Nevada, and I am a student. So in a nutshell I live in a state that doesn't give a crap about the individual but only about the group that pays the most...wait a minute, that defines most of America. Anyway, since everything in Nevada is spaced between Las Vegas and Reno and NO I don't live in Vegas, that means that I have to commute. Although I have been riding my bike around town,I still have to drive to school which is over an hour each way. Here is another catch, the public transportation, if you can call it that, stops, just stops at 5:30 at night...just stops. Plus I kind of define "starving student". If you look up starving student in the dictionary you will see my picture, just in case you are interested. Since we own our house, that we can't sell in this market, I would like to know how to cut down on costs in my home and not endanger the environment to balance the damage I will be doing by commuting. So can I: Outfit my house with solar panels that I can make for little money? Have windmills (since we live in a incredibly windy area) that I can construct myself and not piss off my neighbors with the noise? How do I utilize water when I live in a desert? How can I commute with little damage. Help me!

Desire to recycle is there but no one will help
I have seen multiple people asking the same question as the one I have. I live in las vegas, a rapidly growing city but no avenues to recycle. It should be easier to do the right thing. I just want a way to collect the waste and recycle it. No profit neccessary, just want to do my part. I work for a very large company and would like to start a company wide initiative but cannot get any help locally on this.

Solar Bug - affordable electric car from Bozeman, MT
My dream is to be able to build an electric car that most anybody can afford to buy and drive...Ninety-five percent of the people I talked to said you'll never do it. The response, not only from the people in the United States, but from around the world.has been overwhelming. I get emails every day saying -- just keep doing what you're doing. It's going to change the world! Steve Titus, President of Free Drive The Solar Bug. Video. Greener College Admissions
Most of the popular green press is talking about how colleges are changing to energy efficient light blubs or publicizing recycling programs. These are great, but they never address the damage that college admissions contributes to the environment. They never factor in the amount of paper they waste as they calculate their carbon footprint. It is estimated that colleges require us to process 755,000,000 paper documents each year as an incoming class. Our mailboxes get flooded with direct mail pieces from schools we¹ll never attend. We have to fill out paper form after form as part of our applications sometimes to say the same things. And the paper trail continues until we get to campus, where apparently we can now recycle. StudentsPlantTheSeed.com is a website that helps us identify this problem. It also gives us a collective voice to tell our high schools and colleges that we want them to start using technology available now to eliminate paper. We¹re required to follow the same paper-based processes that our parents and even our grandparents had to follow. It¹s time for a change. You can make a change by telling these institutions how you feel.

Battery recycling on a small business scale?
My department at work uses massive amounts of batteries, mostly AA, AAA, 9-volt, and some D-Cell. We go through thousands each year. This is just my office, and I'm sure other departments at my company are the similar with their uses. I would like any information on a free battery recycling programs for these battery types if there are any available. I need info on collection (boxes, bags, etc.), disposal (shipping, drop-offs), and any other relevant info. If all goes well with participation in my office, I will make this a company wide effort. Thank you.
